It has been a long time since posting and spending much time here but I am glad to be here now. Was camping this weekend and a friend gave me a 521 military stove he had found in the wild. It is a 44 A. Searched the forum and not much was found about it. Would love to chat more if someone can tell me more about it. Did it come with a pot type cover as I did see on one post? Did it have pot supports with it to support bigger pots? Any help would be loved.
Thanks in advance John

John, good to hear from you and that you are well.  That's a nice friend to give you a 521! I honestly don't know much about them, but have seen pictures with simple metal rods inserted on top to support larger pots.  Even if not original, they are simple and work.  I hope you can share a picture or two-had a chance to buy one here some years ago, and like a dummy, let it go!

It looks nice. Can not wait to get it going. It also has a spot to keep a spare something. I don't see a traditional generator of any kind. Hope someone can chime in to show what goes in that location. Also does it come with a pot cover?  I will need to figure out how to post pics again ... things have changed.

Pretty sure that was for a spare vaporizer screen and needle or two and graphite packing. Not sure where mine is right now to check.

Some came with a tall aluminum pot IIRC that fit over the top (upside down of course).

Nice 521! I recently got one but it doesn’t have the pot. The instructions on the plate have held up nicely on yours as well. All mine needed was a little bit of oiling. They throw off some heat!

Can you post a couple of pictures of the pot?

I do not have the pot either. Was hoping to get a pic myself. I did find an old aluminum canister to fit nicely. Will take pic of that. I hate to break up the set but we will see.

The funny thing is the canister is the one for coffee which I thought appropriate. It looks taller than it is. It is only 1/2" over the stove height of the stove.

That coffee canister worked out nicely! From the few pictures I’ve seen on the net, the canister looks similar to the canister on my 520. Not sure if that’s correct but I’ll run a experiment shortly.

Here’s mine John. Hopefully the pictures are oriented correctly. The canister off my 520 fit nicely on it. Not sure if that is what was originally used.  Click image for larger version - Name: BE8EB02A-58F1-438E-AE3D-7A53ED034EE8.jpeg, Views: 49, Size: 258.25 KB Click image for larger version - Name: 1779B77D-5BCF-4F7B-807B-580AC967EB91.jpeg, Views: 47, Size: 271.57 KB Click image for larger version - Name: 41601E00-2EC0-426F-903C-D81C06C97971.jpeg, Views: 48, Size: 228.29 KB Click image for larger version - Name: 9E7D44B9-85C7-4D7D-AC71-7999D37263D9.jpeg, Views: 47, Size: 255.67 KB Click image for larger version - Name: E7880364-F8C1-4E90-B36C-63D719D57EA7.jpeg, Views: 48, Size: 197.25 KB

Yours looks great!!! I just run in and my canister off the other military stoves also fit.... a little tight for my taste. The ones I have are a different model ... will need to look it up. Been gone toooooo long and forgot all those numbers.  LOL  Wish I had the little repair kit. That is nice. Hope to make some wire extensions to go in the holes at the top soon.

Thanks for the pics. John

No problem John. I haven’t been here long. Where this is my first one and it’s doing what it’s supposed to, I haven’t gone through it. If yours needs fettling, hopefully someone who has will chime in. I absolutely love mine! I’d be thrilled with the one you have. To me it looks like a hybrid of a 500 fount with a 520 burner. If you plan on running yours, you won’t be disappointed. Wish I had more technical information to provide you. I’m looking forward to seeing it in action if that’s your gameplan for it.

All it needs is a good fount cleaning and a new leather. I will get to it soon.
