So as I was browsing around online for coleman stuff like I often do, I stumbled upon an outdoors store in the Netherlands who’s website still lists the 442 for sale! When did they go out of production?  At least 10 years ago?

I checked out the company, they are a legit business, but how’s it possible they’ve still got these in stock?  Coleman isn’t still making these, right?

Compared to prices on Ebay for moderately used units, the price really isn’t half bad.

The silver ones went out of production around 2000 when the copper Exponent came out. The newest one I have is a Canada model Coleman Fuel only dated in 2008. Coleman was showing them being sold in the Japan market up to about 2 or 3 years ago.

Being an Euro market stove, Coleman may have still made them after they discontinued them here in the US. Or, there were just a bunch left over that someone found in storage somewhere.

Ahh okay I see, that’s interesting.  Well I’m curious to see if it’s legit.  I’ve heard of some places also selling brand new 222/226/229s way after they were discontinued.  Seeing as you’re the 222 collector, what year did they discontinue the 229?  That was the last backpacking lantern they made, right?

I have two from Europe.  One purchased brand new from a German store in 2015.  There is a label covering the date stamp but the box is dated 2008.

Oh wow, so I guess they were less sought after in Europe and so there was stock that lasted long after they were discontinued!

My copper 229 is dated 2008. I picked it up in 2010. That is about the time when the stoves and lanterns were discontinued if I remember correctly.

I have a Japan 442 on the way. I will not have it until next week, so I can not check the date on that one until then.

I picked up the 08 Canada stove in 2012 from a Coleman Outlet.

Ahh I see, see I love those little lanterns but I only recently was able to get one as a birthday present (thanks to my girlfriend!), I wish I would have been into lanterns back when the 229s were still being sold!

Despite this one being basically unused, I’ve had a hell of a time getting it to run right and operate correctly.  Fingers crossed I’ll finally have it running right tonight.

And there are coleman outlet stores??  Where are they?  Any in PA?

Can see that the silver version is generally being sold in Europe by Amazon and a bunch of companies on their webshops.
Best wishes

Yes, there is an outlet store in Lancaster.

Oh are you talking about Leacock Coleman?  That’s an outlet store?  I’ve actually been going there since around 2012, but I’ve never found any discontinued products there, so I guess it’s just the luck of the draw.  But I still would love to go back sometime, it’s been quite a few years!

Really?  Even today?  So did they just have a lot of stock that they never sold?  Or was it that Coleman was still sending them over to Europe way after they were discontinued over here?  Honestly, pretty crazy rabbit hole to go down with discontinued Coleman stuff!

No, Leacock Coleman is not a Factory Outlet store. It is a private company that sells Coleman.

Although not desirable like a Coleman, here's an available stove that was last made in the 50's.  You can't buy the original fuel canisters for it, but I used a penny stove to operate it.  Well, the one time I tried it out.  I didn't buy mine new,  but found it at a flea market.

It was called Amazon UK I think. My first time ever to use Amazon. I said I would never join but caved in for this.

I got a 282 from amazon UK a year or two ago.  They aren’t NOS.  They are still being produced for other markets.  If you want a new 286, you can get one from Leacock.
