Trying to gauge interest in a reproduction 334 but made out of Aluminum. My business is located in a building with my friends metal spinning business.
Would anyone have interest in 334 in porcelain coated aluminum?
Probably not the ideal material but Coleman did offer Hollow Wire shades in burnished Aluminum. I’ll take some temperature readings on my 334 to make sure it wouldn’t exceed the design temp of the Aluminum used.
Please let me know!
Thank you!
Kevin

I wonder it the aluminum and the porcelain will expand together at the right rate?

its worth a try. Once I get the tooling made I can send it over to the other spinner. He will spin em in steel!
Thank you!

Metal spinning business you say...

I think jason might be correct that the thermal expansion of aluminum would let all the porcelain pop off. But there were several lanterns that had raw aluminum vents, they seem told hold up well. I've been wanting to try my hand at metal spinning on my home lathe, just so many projects and so little time.

Oh yes. Got me a few lamps with no shades. Bare aluminum would be neat...

Whether steel or aluminum, I'd like at least one, maybe two to go on a couple proper vintage lamps.

Kevin, have you ever gotten a quote to have something this size porcelain coated? I'm sure it would be pricey.

I've got a pair of steel repops from Dan, not sure why more weren't made but I'd think there would be a decent market for them.

I was chatting with someone who threw out 80-100$ EACH just for porcelain . Some have said these should sell finished for less than that. That is not gonna happen!
The few I have followed on ePay seem to sell for 150$ ish.
Thank you!

I figured it would be close to the $100 mark. Depending on the price to create the shade and shipping, that still would not be too bad

Keep in mind I was trying to kick this off in February! The spinners don’t work on Fridays so  it’ll be a few days to review. This will take some time but seems to be enough interest currently to pursue.
Thank you
