Did/does Coleman make a version of their 2-piece plastic cases that will fit a 228D big hat.  I'm not interested in stretching the yellow clamshell case to "make ot fit" as I'm gifting a 228D big hat to someone and would like to include a proper case.  This will be a user so prefer plastic over steel.  Thank you.
I am not aware of a big hat version of the later 2-piece plastic case.  The factory case for this model is the old green steel ones.

When I saw this case, I thought that I had stumbled upon a plastic case that could be used with all of my 228 lanterns, but after being provided with measurements, it is an inch too narrow :-(  It certainly looks like a 228 would fit inside! Other than the Lantern Caddy I only own one other case that fits a 228 and that's a green guillotine metal case. Early 1970's.

You can always improvise with 3 gallon plastic buckets, cat litter buckets, etc. You can even screw and glue latches and hinges on a homemade one from a bucket. Experiment.

The two piece cases came out after the 228 was discontinued. They were introduced with the 290 and 288. As the others have said, a Lantern Caddy is about as close as you will come.

The 2-piece globe-breaker cases are about 1" too short for any 220 before the F. I've had a couple that were modded to fit the older lanterns by cutting about a 4" dia hole in the top, under the handle. The top of the vent sticks out through the hole.
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.

I make custom wood cases for lanterns and single stoves. Not cheap, but nice.
