I just picked up an almost perfect 290 Powerhouse, I originally decided to grab it because I didnt have a Powerhouse, it was in great shape, and i could keep the globe as a spare for my 236 and 639 lanterns.  However a friend pointed out to me on Terry Marsh site about some Powerhouse lanterns coming with this globe originally, the ones on Terry's site are Jan/96 and so is mine.  Is it possible this globe is original?  To bad they had tinfoil wrapped around it for a reflector and I didnt check before purchasing.  Just curious on if this is legit or not, looks like I can get another globe just like it off the OCP store

The large bulge globe on the 290's is legit and for the year you mention. Could be an original globe.

One member even posted his original box WITH the bulge globe a couple years ago. Really takes the looks of a 290 to the next level IMO.

Nice find. I also agree that it could be original. I really like that look a lot better than the straight globe on those lanterns.

Yes. Buy two. If you have one and it's cracks or breaks, you have none. That's the way I do it anyway.

It's definitely an original feature, but wouldn't know for sure about 1986. I bought mine new in 1987 (7/87 date) and still use it and it right out the box and red plastic case with the bulge globe. My original globe has no writing on it. There's a photo of it on this forum somewhere.

Thanks for this post. I grabbed to 290 and lit it up. Lit perfectly. Ran it 5 minutes. Shut it off. Wouldn't shut down after 3-4 minutes. Looks ;ike the Schrader valve core has finally gone bad after 32+ years (I lit it up last winter and it worked fine. Better to find out now than in the field on a week long trip.

I guess I'll grab a new valve core from the parts box and replace it.

@jjlietzke.
I guess i didn't realize they were making them in 96 or was that a typo?
