Picked up this pair off of a certain List today. Inquired about the 242B and we settled on a price and the seller soon followed up offering the 200A for a fair price. This is my second 242B and this one is in much better condition than my other one. The nickel is very good the main blemish is someone scratched 2 letters on the fount. On the bottom the stamp is really hard to decipher. At times it looks like a 6 or a 9 or a 5 or a B? Is there another way to date this one? You can see the stamp at about 4 o,clock just off center.

The globe I’m guessing is an original straight Coleman and Pyrex. 96D8603F-280B-43AB-BD8C-5FE61D1F3F63.jpeg
The 200A is a 11/66 and in great shape. Came with the box and literature.

Any ideas on dating the 242B?

Looks like a 6 at about 10:00 which would make the 242B  June 1936. Year should be the left digit and month the right digit according to the Collector's Guide

I would say two 9s:

It's a B Pancho, so presumably between '37 and '42  no years ending in 6...

Great to know. What is a great book to buy and learn more about dates and variations?

The Book says 242Bs were produced from 1936 to 1942. Need to figure out which digit is on the left - it should be the year

My reference (not that its' been 100% accurate) has the 242s like this:

NL - 1932-1935
A   - 1935-1936
B   - 1937-1942
C   - 1942-1950

If 36 had an overlap, I would suspect later in the year rather than mid year?

But it's also Coleman, and they were anything but consistent.

If it's "6  6", then it won't have a fount stamp. If it's "9  9", then it will. I've got one just like it (only not nearly as nice as that one) with that same stamp, but no side fount stamp, so June 1936.

There is no stamp on the fount. I'm thinking its a 36. I don't think the "other" number people are seeing is a number. I zoomed in on the original and its just a swirl in the material. Were they stamped anywhere else? The mixing chamber has a 3000 stamped on it.
