Mark your calendars for the OHIO Gathering at Kokosing Valley Camp and Canoe in Millwood, Ohio
August 7-9, 2020

http://kokosingvalley.com

We have 14 sites reserved.  Early arrivals are OK be sure to tell them you're with the Coleman group.
As the date approaches I'll need a rough headcount and a count of tents and RVs.  You can post here on this thread or PM me if you prefer.  We will again be in the "B" camp area with our Mennonite neighbors.     No need to contact the campground for a reservation unless you're arriving early.  We had plenty of space last year.

The rate for tent camping (or those sleeping in the back of their trucks) is $7.50 per head per night.  The group rate assumes we're putting 2 tents on each site.  The sites are very large and mostly shaded.  Plenty of room for EZ ups.  RVs will be charged the regular rate of $35 per night for 2 adults and minor children.  30 amp electric and water on each site though I suggest you bring your own drinking water.

Located on the Kokosing river, the campground offers canoeing and other activities like putt putt golf, a driving range, a nice swimming pool, basketball and volleyball.

B area...

[Zw4jjrZ]

Just east of the campground is Honey Run Falls.  It's a great place to cool off on a summer afternoon.

CRAP!  One week or the other and we could have made it this year.  We will be in Canada for our 30th Wedding Anniversary that week.  I hate to miss it.  I have been to every one.  We always have a good time there.

Oh good! Early arrivals!  I'll be there sometime mid week.

Scott,  congrats on your anniversary.  Sorry the date is a conflict with your Canada trip

I talked to Chris this morning.  She said Craig is getting busy at the campground.

I will be right next to John and Marge.

Lots of interest is building for the Ohio Gathering.  I've had several calls and emails about it recently.   I spoke with the campground owner today just to touch base.  They just opened last week and are very glad to hear the Coleman people are still coming.   At this point covid numbers for Knox county are quite low.  Assuming that trend continues we should be fine.

OHIO GATHERING CANCELED

In early May I posted here that I would review and make a decision about the Ohio Gathering by mid July.  I have to be honest and say the sharp rise of covid 19 cases in recent weeks is a problem when I think about promoting a gathering that historically attracts 45+ people.  There is currently a ban on gatherings of 10 or more per Ohio Governor DeWine and I don't see this being lifted in the next 30 days so I feel the only responsible thing to do is to "officially" cancel the Ohio Gathering.

Good evening Mark. That is some very unfortunate news to hear. But completely understood. It had to be a hard call to make but given the circumstances it had to be done. Being a noob I sure was looking forward to meeting a lot of great people. Well. Next year!! Take care friend.

Well, I certainly understand your reasoning, and I don’t fault you for it, but MAN, I’m really disappointed.  I passed up Gettysburg figuring Ohio would help ease the pain.  I’m so sick of this Chinese bat flu and how it’s disrupted everything.  I’ll stop now before I get kicked off.

Thank you Mark and I completely understand the call. The Gettysburg gathering was much the same and a smaller crowd did attend and keep good social distancing practices and it was a nice smaller event that many of us enjoyed immensely. I’ve personally already taken that week off so I’ll be practicing those same things and will be making the trip irregardless of number of attendees, but everyone has different situations regarding their health and health of their loved ones so I completely understand your call. Thanks again Mark.

I am still attending - even though it is not an official gathering.

I plan to practice social distancing as we all did at Gettysburg.

Even though attendance will be much less than normal, I still plan to have a good time.

I plan to cook up some bat burgers and make the best of the situation.

Thanks Mark!

Phil, or anyone who had reserved an RV site with Kokosing Valley campground, please call and cancel your reservation if you will not be attending.  I spoke with the Campground recently and 10 of the 14 sites are still reserved.  They said they have been extremely busy this summer, lots of people are camping and they have been turning people away for reservations.  As it stands now I feel we will probably fill the other four sites with tents or ppl sleeping in their trucks.  I hope this isn’t causing more confusion, the event is officially canceled however I know people will still come as long as they’re comfortable about camping and social distancing.

so does that mean you can make the Apache popup camper roundup this year (same weekend, I remember talking to you last year saying you wanted to come to the Apache gathering but had been previously commited to this one)
I was actually hoping to try a day trip down to this Coleman gathering from the Apache one)
typical, damneer everything I was counting on going to this year, same story.... car shows, tractor shows, everything... less than 2 weeks out from the Apache one that I have been at for ~6-7 years now, this one better NOT get cut.....
I already cancelled a week of vacation for later in Aug because the Hot Rod Power Tour got cancelled, which was supposed to start in Norwalk and stop #2 at National Trail (near Columbus I guess)  Mopar Nationals are supposed to be there same weekend as the Apache one and this Coleman one that is now cut, have always wanted to go to Mopar Nats but have never made it yet

Hi Dodge Trucker,   Yes the Ohio Apache Roundup and the Ohio Coleman Gathering seem to always fall on the same weekend. Same with Volksfest just east of Columbus but I know they've canceled since it's held on school property and it attracts hundreds of people each year.  What's the latest on the Apache roundup in Bellvue,  still on?   Our 65 Raven will likely be setup at Kokosing Valley that weekend.  Another Ohio Gathering  regular with a Falcon isn't coming as far as I know.   Hope you do come for a day visit.

We usually come but it fell on our Anniversary.  We were going to Canada but that is now out.  We never made a reservation to come to the gathering so I am not sure if there is room for us.  I talked to my wife and she is game.  Is there room for an Apache?
Quote
Flat_twin
They wouldn't let you into Canada eh?  Your reputation precedes you sir!  LOL.   Best I know right now there are four sites left plus some overflow if needed.  I'm sure there's room for the Falcon.  What day are you thinking about coming Scott?

yup as of 2 days ago I talked to Dave "Raccoon" that hosts it and so far still on. He don't know how many will be there, that he knows of only about half of the regulars had reserved sites.... one (I believe) had registered from PA that had said a long time ago he would be there, but now isn't coming. That is the only one I know that was coming to the Apache thing but has cancelled....
the campground hasn't called anybody saying that there would be an issue from the State with having people at the campground as of yet.
about 1/2 of the regulars that haven't committed are "maybes" as of 2 days ago. The most I have seen there has been around 20-21 Apaches, down to about 12 at the least. There is 1 husband and wife regular that used to have an Apache that doesn't any longer, that come from Columbus-ish with a big ugly teal RV.  One year while I was between Apaches, I still went and rented one of their cottages. there are some that come just for the Saturday nite pot luck, some former owners, some with campers under construction that aren't towable at the time or whatever.
I keep saying that one of tehse years we are gonna either stay a few extra days after or come way early the week of and hit places like the Rock n roll hall of fame (not real close but that campground is closer than what home (for me) is, which is near Chicago) and the Mopar Nationals that are the same weekend, too, at National Trail (wherever in Ohio THAT is)
Quote
Flat_twin
Thx for the info.   National Trails Raceway is on US Rt 40 near Hebron OH  due east of Columbus.  It wouldn't be a long drive from camp,  maybe 35 miles SSW.  Maybe that will work out for you sometime.
