Coast to Coast
Hello,
Does anyone know if the bottom of the founts on painted 242b lanterns were left unpainted?  Mine has no paint.  Just the bare zinc/tin/galvanized coating or whatever it is.  I have seen 243 series lanterns that look as if the bottom were never painted, but I have two painted 242c lanterns and they both are painted on the bottom.

Thank you,
-Bird- Milwaukee, WI.

I'll look when I get home after work today. Maybe someone will get to theirs sooner.

I have owned several of the US painted 242B's.  If I remember correctly all of the bottoms were unpainted.

That is good to know Mike.  Everything seems to be correct on this one.  Several steel parts compared to a nickel B including the vent nut and the fuel cap insert.  I’ve never had either of those parts be steel on a painted C.  I just wanted to make sure that the unpainted bottom, is not a sign that the lantern has been stripped, and painted at some time.
Thanks,

I found 2 of my 3 painted B's and both have an unpainted bottom. I could only read one and it was 11     41.

Mine is also dated November 1941.  Popular date I guess.
