Sorry I know this has been asked many time's before but I can't find it on here.

When did the 200A's switched to the one piece fuel cap?

Thanks

I'm not sure we have an actual date. You'll have to narrow it down from what is in members' collections. Late 60's is a guess since I don't have any 200As between 66 and 72.

They had 3-piece in May of '67.  That's as far as my 200As go before hitting '81.

I've been taking notes on this for a while now during my ebay prowling (and from my own collection) and have narrowed it down to late 1970. With 213 positively date-verified lanterns and stoves, this is what I've found so far:

 Fuel cap data 213.png

There is a pretty definite transition in late 1970, then some more 3-piece caps (6) show up again in early 1973. There is no guarantee that any of these haven't been swapped, but I ignored any that didn't have a verifiable date stamp and those with obviously mis-matched caps.

Smells right to me... I was thinking around 1970-1971.

I have a nice little 200A with a three piece cap dated 8/70. The 1/71 502 and 8/71 220F have one piece caps though. Seems to fit the bill.

Unless you (or a relative) bought the lantern new, you never know if parts are original or not.  Also, Coleman may have found some leftover 3 piece caps and used them after they switched.

Around 1970 seems right from what I have seen.

There were definitely 3 piece caps on some 73 200a's. They might have found a few cases in the back and decided to use them, who knows. In any case there was no specific date that the switch was made. I have not seen a 74 with a 3 piece cap.

Not uncommon.
Wurlitzer did this.  They ceased using the 1954 era 45 record mechanism in 1970 in favor of their new simplified mechanism, but had a huge stockpile of older 50 record/100 selection mechanisms warehoused.  For 1974, they designed a very simple cabinet, popped them in, and sold it as a space saver/discount model.
