I already shared one photo of this lantern that I picked up in a group purchase last weekend.  Terry Marsh encouraged me to get the PLC (Pressure Lantern Catalog) from Neil McRae to learn more about it.  If you haven't seen this fantastic compilation that Neil has created, it is well worth the $20 cost.

Neil has identified this as a Model 5 (a) with the earliest NC burner design for this model, made in 1914-15.  This lantern is in beautiful condition with the original mica and the black pricker paddle is in tact (wood?). Wooden frame rest with original ivory paint on the fount and frame rest.  It has probably been lit at some point, but a long time ago and not for very long.  Quite an ingenious burner/generator design.  I think Neil lists 19 different designs used by NC.  Wish we could all look this good at 103 years old!

A sweet find in sweeter condition! You have to love the early lanterns where everybody was still figuring out what would work and look good.

Mr Nagel: "I'd suggest a 4" chimney on the vent."
Mr. Chase: "Excellent idea. Everybody will be copying us in no time."

Mike.
