Just returned from my monthly camping trip with my son, we try a new state park each time and for March I chose Kanopolis. The 426D continues to be the best $50 I ever spent in my life. I love that stove!!!

The sunset was nice. We camped on the Sandy Shore Campground, and the lake was down, it was windy, it felt like we were at the beach except that we were camped in the trees. Had the entire lake to ourselves. Fishing was horrible, didn’t get a single bite.

But first, we visited Mushroom State Park — about 10 minutes north of Kanopolis Lake. Really, really interesting sandstone rock formations.

A great time was had. I used my new-in-box 288 lantern from 1999 that I posted about a week or so ago and it fired right up and was amazing. We saw a beaver swimming in the lake as well as his handy work:

Saw a lot of deer. Saw some pelican-type birds that were the size of deer. Also slept in the Coleman pop up tent that literally sets up in 10 seconds, folding it up is equally as fast but only after watching a You Tube video lol

Last but not least, the Horse Thief Trail. Amazing caves and rugged beauty in the Smoky Hills region of Kansas. Thanks for looking!

Good time well spent with the boy. That breakfast is just for the two of you? Can I come next time? :)

Wow. Looks like some great country to explore!

I like seeing the stove in use, too!

Is it possible the pelican-like birds were... pelicans?

They're huge, for sure. They also fly incredibly high. I've seen what looked to the eye like glitter far up in the sky, but resolved as a swirling flock of White Pelicans through the binos.
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.

Looks like a fun time! It is a beautiful place to explore and camp. Our families, bridd(Bart) and mine have been to Kanopolis Resovoir. We camped below the dam, we also hiked Horsethief and Mushroom, highly recommend the place. A great thing you and your son have going.

Yep, that’s exactly what they were. I’ve never really seen them til now. Also a lot of black hawks, saw them at Toronto Lake as well.

Very nice looking cooking picture, Jason! 3-burners are great for fixin’ breakfasts. It looks like you two had a good time while surrounded by beautiful country. All great pictures by I really like one of the tent in front of the stark trees. And you can see the direction of the prevailing winds in the trees. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah I found that stove in the original box in an antique store/mall and couldn’t believe my luck. Yeah it takes up a lot of space in the vehicle but it’s worth it. I’m extremely pleased with the Coleman table as well, I always set it up in the L shape and it’s great
