Decided to do some fishing yesterday went to a small lake here in Kansas where they stock trout during the winter months caught 3 right away 20 minutes than they quit bitting 2 hours later I catch number 4 the limit is 5 so after I catch number 5 it was real small so I let him go three casts later I catch this big golden rainbow trout some call em palomino took a little while to bring in cause I use ultralight gear made my day got them on the smoker now I'll post more pictures later. Now if I can just catch a gold bond lantern I'd be really happy 😁

Nice, I've caught a few Golden trout on my backpacking trips at elevation in the Sierra Nevada. Limited area they are in.

Good lookin' stringer there!

Duane: These aren't the Golden Trout of the Sierras. They're a hatchery-developed hybrid planted mostly in the South East.

The Sierra golden trout are generally smaller and somewhat, to me anyhow, prettier.
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.

I’m afraid when I ate it I would be thinking about carp or goldfish. I have the same problem eating yellow cherries, they actually taste great but it just doesn’t seem right.

Nice catch Karl! Looks like they were good eating! What lake is that? When I was in college I used to love going down to the river pond area of Tuttle Creek in the winter and fish the trout there. South of me near Pittsburg are some strip pits that are deep enough to keep them alive all year long, might have to go try my luck one of these days.

Yes, they’re hybrids. There’s an interesting book about them, and the trout industry in general:
