Watching the movie Red Ball Express and saw a few Coleman lanterns including an Early Bighat, sitting behind Sydney Poitiers character in one scene.

Here is one scene clip.

We watched several old b&w horror flicks over the weekend.  "The Mummy" had several scenes with 220B lanterns being used.  Didn't get a pic of that scene but here's what the outdoor theatre looked like that night.  Can you guess which movie we're watching here?

Just finished watching all 57 episodes of Tour of Duty. Several episodes were in supply areas where the lanterns were thicker than flies on an outhouse. Almost every episode has at least one milspec. Some like the supply depot shots have lots of big hats too. This weekend I start China Beach. I'll let you know what I see.

more like a 220F as it has dual mantles and the short vent.

you can see a lot of suitcase stoves all through the series. they are stacked in the store room. the Korean hooches all seem to have one to heat their water on.
Me TV is playing the series and I noticed that there are fewer GPA lanterns as the show goes by and every time the generator fails they seem to have some kind of super bright battery operated "flashlight" to continue to operate on patients.

I recently saw an Andy Griffith episode where Goober got lost in a cave but he had a lantern. It dimmed, he ran to it and pumped the heck out of it but it went out. Being lost underground, this was his last bit of comfort. He was so bummed. Nothing left to do so he said his prayers and went to sleep. I thought it was pretty funny.

I watched Frankenstein last night on Halloween.  There are lots of Coleman lanterns.  I don't know exactly what they are, but the have the mica globes with the lighting ports.  The movie was released in 1931. Even the angry mobs at the end have a number of lanterns in addition to the many torches.  Somehow the lanterns look more dramatic in black and white.

I borrowed this still:

I have enjoyed watching the first season of the TV show Gotham.  The series is built around Jim Gordon, and Bruce Wayne is a young teenager.  In one episode, Bruce hikes in the woods alone and falls down a hill, twisting an ankle or something.  After nightfall, he manages to make a splint and struggle up the hillside, only to find Alfred waiting for him at the top, sitting by a campfire and with a Coleman.

The Woods 2.JPG

BTW, this version of Alfred is quite different and in my opinion well done.

Just watched The Flying Leathernecks, staring John Wayne, last night.  There are two or three scenes with what appears to be 242s and another with a Dietz Monarch wickie.  In one scene, an MP confronts a scrounging Marine line chief about a couple of tents and "10 Coleman lanterns" that came up missing from another unit.
