I have never seen this done before on a Coleman oven, Jim. Interesting thought. It would allow one to check on the contents without having to open the door and letting some heat out. I’m thinking you are talking about the oven where the door is hinged on the side as opposed to the older diamond-badge oven that opens down like a kitchen oven.

That's an interesting idea!

I've seen replacement mica sheets available for wood burning stoves and similar. Might be an additional option.

I have a camp oven with a glass window in the door. It was made that way. I can't post pictures anymore since the update.

I like the mica idea.  I was thinking, one of those index card drawer label holders would work well as a "frame and pocket" for the mica, and easy to cut an opening for the door too.

This Coleman behemoth uses some type of glass so I'm sure your toaster oven idea would be perfect. Mica would be much easier and lighter though. A cool project you've got there.

Wouldn't any opening for a viewing glass/mice result in a significant, constant heat loss?

Mica has a T/C of 0.7 W/mK.  vs  66 W/mK for steel (copper is 90.400 W/mK as a reference) so its actually better.

Glass is also relatively low:  1.05 W/mK
