Hey Guys,

I just bought a 621b lantern for 5 bucks! I put a #11 mantle on it and some coleman fuel I had in my garage. It fired up nicely!! However, once it was running for 30 seconds it started to flutter. Enough to blow a hole in the mantle. It came with 2 extra generators. So, I changed out the generator. It fired up nicely and did the same thing! Fluttered enough to blow out the mantle. I am not sure what to do next!. Maybe it is the fuel? Maybe it is something else. Its a nice lantern. I would really like to get it running. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

welcome from 1 province west. BRIGHT lantern, wonder if its a problem with the Schrader valve?. Roland or Agostino would know better than me. I am sure that once they see your post they will chime in

Did you use the original fuel that was in the fount? Try dumping it and using nrew fresh fuel.

I did use "fresh" fuel. I bought a can of fuel from the same guy that was selling the lantern. Maybe the fuel is bad! I will buy a fresh supply tomorrow. If it works, I will be sure and post

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys! Thx for the welcome. I have just started collecting...Have a 639 kerosene cp rail and this 621 so far.

Its working great! Talked with a member by the name of Myles. He suggested that the mantle screen may be missing. I had another lantern 315B that was a good candiate for parts! I swapped out the screen ( or the part with the screen in it). Even though the 315B screen was smaller. It will do the trick for now until I find the correct part! Thanks for all the help.

Sorry Murff...I should have said 321B.. However, I am glad to say it works and ran for over a hour without a flicker. So, thanks to the helpful group here. I have a few pics attached. The Blue one 621A and the donor (Green) 321B. Oh and I robbed the heat shield from the 321B to use on the 621A

Hey nice 621, and congrats on getting it going.  Don't worry about the heat shield, there never was one.  The shield was on the 321B and 621B and later.

Roland, there was no heat shield on the 621A? I could have sworn the two 621A models I own had them when I bought them. They must have been put on by a previous owner.

Hmmm, what are the dates of the 621A with shields?  Can you post some pics of them?

Roland,

For my 621A models with heat shields, one is a 1-74 and the other is a 2-75.

The heat shield was not on mine. I took it off an old one that I had for parts. I robbed a 321B. It looked good on it....So, i left it there!

BTW, nice 621's.

I was working all weekend and did not get out to any garage sales. Later in the day when I went, they had sold all there coleman products already! Missed a bunch of great deals I am sure.

I suggest you hit up the Old Coleman Parts, in the yellow banner above, and see if Mike has the right parts for your lantern. then order spare mantles while you're at it. after all is done, you'll have potentially two working lanterns with correct parts

just my .02 and BTW nice find
