I picked this up Friday morning:

A little rough around the edges. Seems to have been used hard and put away wet. Good news was the fount was 2/3 full of clean CF, and no evidence it had ever burned RUG. Fount is pristine inside.

I consulted The Guide for some pictures of an original 500A and did my best to restore this one.

After:

And it really, really works!

First fire, full-bore:

Choked down to a nice low simmer:

In use:

The 500A is just as great a cooker as the 500. Full blast, it's nearly a crab-cooker, but will simmer for hours.

I replaced all the rusted steel screws (but one) with brass screws so I can take it down without risking broken screws. Some of them were very hard to get out--they broke loose just before they broke--and that after lots of PB Blaster, heat, and time. The screw that retains the cover over the air intake is permanent, unless I want to drill and tap it, so I just left it. Maybe next time.
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.

Looking good Timm. I think the 500 series stoves are just the best. They'll do anything that you need them to do and then some.
